Damn Mike
Posted by Media Outrage on December 7, 2008
It was brought to our attention that several years ago Charles Barkely said that while he and Michael Jordan were still playing in the league, that one day they were out and about and a homeless man asked Barkely for some money, and Charles gave the man some money. Jordan in turn chided Barkley saying “you shouldn’t have given him any money because the same way he could beg for money he can also say hi may I take your order at Wendys.”
All we can say is that’s some cold ish right there Mike. Thanks for the tip Jamal.

True Benevolence
Posted by Media Outrage on July 25, 2008
Charles Barkley did a rather charitable thing by paying for a young man’s college tuition to Temple University in Philly.
Via Philly.com:
CHRISTIAN ABATE majored in education at Temple, but put his studies on hold for a few years while having financial hardship.
He’s worked as a busboy for eight years at Saloon (750 S. 7th), where he struck up a friendship with one generous regular at the Italian restaurant who volunteered to pay his Temple tuition.
During a visit to Saloon last summer, Charles Barkley asked Abate how he was enjoying teaching, and was disappointed to learn that Abate had still not returned to Temple because of problems securing financial aid. Abate, 28, of South Philly, started at Temple in 1997, months after graduating from St. John Neumann High. Read the rest of this entry »

Charles Barkley owes $400,000
Posted by Media Outrage on May 15, 2008
Via AP:
Retired NBA star Charles Barkley will face criminal charges if he doesn’t repay a $400,000 gambling debt to a Las Vegas casino, a prosecutor said Thursday.
“We’re in the process of sending Mr. Barkley notice that we’re considering filing a criminal complaint,” Clark County District Attorney David Roger said. “He’ll have an opportunity like anybody else to make restitution to the hotel.”
The posh Wynn Las Vegas casino alleges in a civil complaint filed Wednesday in Nevada state court that Barkley failed to repay four $100,000 casino markers, or loans, he received last Oct. 18 and 19.
“To date, and despite repeated demands, Barkley has refused to repay the $400,000,” the complaint said.
Barkley estimated during a May 2006 interview with ESPN that he’d gambled away about $10 million over the years.
“Do I have a gambling problem? Yeah, I do have a gambling problem,” Barkley said. “But I don’t consider it a problem because I can afford to gamble.”
He said he never bet on basketball, and only bet in casinos. He called it a bad habit that he intended to continue.
Mediaoutrage- $400,000 shouldn’t be a problem for Barkley to pay being that he earns a nice paycheck from TNT.
