Kwame Kilpatrick Released From Jail

Former Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick was released from jail this morning after serving 99 days. He will remain on probation for 5 years.

Kwame Kilpatrick regained his freedom early Tuesday morning, emerging from jail after a 99-day sentence and stepping back onto the streets of the city he once ruled as mayor.

The 38-year-old Kilpatrick, about 25 pounds lighter than when he entered jail at the end of October, left the downtown Detroit facility wearing a dark suit just after 12:30 a.m.

On the sidewalk, Kilpatrick stood for a long moment amid bright television camera lights, a crush of awaiting reporters and swirling snowflakes, smiling occasionally to those in the crowd who called his name and shouted: “We love you, Kwame! Detroit loves you, baby!”

Christine Beatty pleaded guilty today to two felonies and will spend 120 days in jail for her part in the text message scandal that removed Kwame Kilpatrick as Mayor of Detroit.

Christine Beatty, once Detroit’s most powerful woman as a top aide to Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, today pleaded guilty to two felonies and will serve 120 days in jail for her role in the text-message scandal that also brought down her former boss.

Beatty, who admitted guilt to two counts of obstructing justice for lying in a police whistle-blower case, also will be on probation for five years. During that time, she will have to reimburse the City of Detroit for $100,000 if she is able.

DETROIT – A judge has sentenced former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to 120 days in jail, nine months after a newspaper story about text messages ignited a scandal at City Hall. Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner ordered the sentence Tuesday afternoon and noted Kilpatrick would not be given an opportunity for early release.

The Democratic ex-mayor pleaded guilty last month to obstruction of justice, admitting he lied about an affair with his chief of staff while testifying in a civil lawsuit in 2007. He also pleaded no contest to assaulting a sheriff’s detective.

Mediaoutrage- 120 days isn’t too much time. He should be able to avoid getting the OZ treatment.

Below are the most recent Free Press findings from hundreds of text messages released by prosecutors today in the perjury prosecution of Christine Beatty:

Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick bragged that he occasionally liked to ditch his full-time security, sneak out of the Manoogian Mansion and drive around the streets of Detroit, a routine now referred to as “Kwame Time.”

He and Beatty sometimes messaged each other about whether he could get free of prying eyes for a rendezvous, which often happened late at night.

Members of the police executive protection unit, including Kilpatrick’s longtime pal and team leader Officer Loronzo (Greg) Jones, didn’t like their charge sneaking off.

Detroit’s new mayor

Ken Cockrel Jr. was sworn in as Detroit’s new mayor yesterday. Cockrel was president of the City Council and will now have the chance to provide leadership at the highest level in the city as a result of Kwame Kilpatrick’s text sex scandal. Cockrel has hired a former federal prosecutor as deputy mayor, picked a police chief and urged residents to put their trust in the new team at City Hall.

In remarks to reporters this week, he said getting his hands on the city’s budget problems is a priority. Cockrel already has met with outside auditors.

“When you have your financial house in order, it makes it a lot easier to do the other things that you want to do,” the 42-year-old former newspaper reporter said.

Kilpatrick, a Democrat, left office Thursday and will go to jail next month as part of a recent plea deal with prosecutors. He admitted lying on the witness stand in a civil lawsuit over the firing of two police officers.

Kilpatrick’s 120-day jail sentence starts Oct. 28.

Disgraced Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick pled guilty and resigned from office.

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick pleaded guilty to felony charges Thursday in a sex scandal and will step down after months of defiantly holding onto his job leading the nation’s 11th-largest city. He was ordered jailed for four months and fined $1 million.

As part of the deal, the 38-year-old Democrat is to serve four months in jail and five years of probation. He also would pay the $1 million in restitution over the five-year probationary period.

Mediaoutrage- We just hope the mayor holds onto his backdoor area while on lock down as ferverently as he did his position as mayor.

Kwame Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty’s text sex affair revealed

According to a Sept. 23, 2002, text message from Beatty to the mayor, she wrote: “I love you so much man! Thank you for showing what it’s like to be head over heels in love.”

On Sept. 15, 2002, Beatty described a sex act she wanted to perform on the mayor but said she didn’t know how to ask him to let her do it. He replied: “Next time, just tell me to sit down, shut up and do your thing!”

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Apologizes

Peep how his wife looks like she’s reading her speech off of a teleprompter. He decided to issue a formal apology to the citizens of Detroit for his text sex scandal with his top aide Christine Beatty and ask that the media leave his family alone and harass him if necessary.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is now in some deep dookie for possibly lying under oath last year when he denied having an affair with his top aide Christine Beatty. It has come out that they sent over 14,000 text messages to one another professing their love, affair, and hot butt naked sex.

The text messages….

“I’m madly in love with you,” Kilpatrick wrote on Oct. 3, 2002.

“I hope you feel that way for a long time,” Beatty replied. “In case you haven’t noticed, I am madly in love with you, too!“

On Oct. 16, 2002, Kilpatrick wrote Beatty: “I’ve been dreaming all day about having you all to myself for 3 days. Relaxing, laughing, talking, sleeping and making love.“

Kilpatrick is married with three children. Beatty was married at the time and has two children.

The two, both 37, have been friends since they attended the same Detroit high school. Kilpatrick also appointed Beatty as his chief of staff when he became state House minority leader in 1999. She was his campaign manager during his campaigns for state House and the mayor’s office.

The content of the text messages “astounded” Judge Michael Callahan, who presided over the lawsuit. He said the messages would have been admitted into evidence, if they had been presented during the trial.

“I’ve done other whistle-blower cases, but I don’t think I’ve ever had a trial as tense as the one involving the mayor and the city,” he said.

The Mayor’s statements….

“These five- and six-year-old text messages reflect a very difficult period in my personal life,” he said. “It is profoundly embarrassing to have these extremely private messages now displayed in such a public manner.“
