Kelly: “I Didn’t Get Dropped From Columbia”

After yesterdays news, that Kelly Rowland was dropped from Columbia Records, like eggs in a bottomless frying pan, she felt it necessary to issue an official statement explaining the split.

Via Singersroom:

Grammy Award-winning starlet Kelly Rowland says rumors that her split with Columbia Records, revealed Monday, having to do with not being “commercially viable” are false !

In a statement obtained early Tuesday, Rowland and Columbia reveal that the former “Like This” singer will not only continue on at Columbia as part of Destiny’s Child but the split was truly amicable and her decision.

“Because Columbia Records has been my home base as an artist for more than a decade, the decision to move out on my own required a lot of soul-searching,” says Kelly Rowland.

“As a solo artist, I felt the need to explore new directions, new challenges, and new freedoms outside my comfort zone and my friends and family at Columbia have been incredibly understanding about my evolution. I want to thank everyone at Columbia for the love and support they’ve shown and I will never forget how many good times we’ve had over the years.”

While at Columbia, Rowland helped to earn Destiny’s Child (including Beyonce and Michelle Williams) the distinction of becoming the #1 female pop group of all time, a fact that Columbia/Epic Label Music Group CEO Rob Stringer can’t ignore.

“Kelly Rowland is one of our finest contemporary artists and a musical force to be reckoned with,” says Stringer.

“It has been a privilege and a pleasure to work with Kelly and we will continue our working relationship with her under the Destiny’s Child moniker. The decision for Kelly to seek other opportunities for her solo career was agreed upon mutually, and any reports to the contrary are false.”

As they say… there you have it !

In addition to selling more than 50 million records worldwide with Destiny’s Child, Kelly Rowland sold more than 4 million copies globally of her two solo albums: 2002’s “Simply Deep” and 2007’s “Ms. Kelly,” which included the international #1 chart-topping single, “Work.”

Mediaoutrage– We doubt that Columbia would just kick her to the curb despite the fact that not even her family was probably buying her albums.

Yea I hope she able 2 stay afloat. I would like 2 see her back in the studio.

Seems like anyone who was part of Destiny’s Child group can’t seem 2 get on track.

She needs to focus on something other than a singing career… because it is deader than a door knob!

Ummm…never heard of that “chart topping single.” I love Kelly, but she’s no Bey. She needs better writers, producers and management behind her or she’s never gonna make it. Bey’s team has her covered on all levels. Think about it. Bey did “Dreamgirls” and “Austin Powers,” which were both HUGE films. Kelly did “Seatfillers” and “Jason X,” neither of which I have even seen. Need I say more?

  6. She couldnt sell records if Jesus was on the sidewalk with a Kelly Rowland CD’s in his robe! Sorry…..

She can sing, but dosent have the writers or producers..she just dosent have it….

Who cares. The only song that I ever liked from her was the one with Nelly. She looks great in that pic.

The chart topping song was the song she had with eve “like this”. Kelly can sing. Kelly can act (a lot better than bey. Matter of fact, my cat can act better than her).

She was smart for leaving matthew. What was the point in being with him? He wasn’t doing nothing for her. He doesn’t do anything for anybody except beyonce. He don’t even do shit for solange. Solange promotes her own self (some manager/dad he is)

As for leaving the label…… I think she got something up her sleeve. I know the she is HOT over seas. So maybe that’s the best thing for her to do. Go over-seas and make that paper. Unfortunately were stuck here with beyonce “singing” and her horrible fake ass acting.
