“Good Hair” Arrivals

Posted by Media Outrage on October 2, 2009

Raven h1

Everybody and they grandmamma came out to the LA premiere of Chris Rock’s “Good Hair” film.  Chris was on Oprah the other day choppin’ it up and filling the atmosphere up with nothing but jokes about women’s hair.  We think it should definitely be a great film to check out for women and men.

Raven Symone was showing a little bit of cleavage for the folks last night.  Nia Long, Gabrielle Union, Melyssa Ford, Jill Marie Jones and her DSL’s, Eve, Elise Neal, Claudia Jordan, Golden Brooks, Salli Richardson, Tamala Jones and of course Chris Rock himself all descended upon Majestic Crest Theatre for the premiere…..

I am so sick of negro comedians getting away with rascist and violent talk. They should be censored. Instead negroes show up to be stereotyped and laughed AT. Black hair requires NO MORE CARE THAN WHITE HAIR. White folks are perming to get curly hair, wearing weave/extensions, and spending hours at the beauty salon too. Yet dumb negroes, trained coons, act like we’re the only ones spending a lot of time on our hair. White folks actually spend more time than we do, because they’re washing, conditioning, blow drying, and curling EVERY DARN DAY. OUR HAIR ACTUALLY REQUIRES LESS CARE. STOP DIGGING UP DIRT TO DISH ON YOUR OWN PEOPLE FOOLS. NO ONE RESPECTS YOU FOR IT.

STOP TALKING BAD ABOUT YOUR OWN BLACK WOMEN, COON COMEDIANS. WE DON’T SPEND ANY MORE TIME ON OUR HAIR THAN WHITES. THEY ACTUALLY SPEND MORE TIME ON THEIR HAIR BECAUSE THEY’RE WASHING, CONDITIONING, AND CURLING EVERY DARN DAY. AND WEARING LOTS OF WEAVE, AND SPEND HOURS AT THE SALON EVERY WEEK. YET YOU NEVER HEAR WHITE COMEDIANS ACTING LIKE THEY’RE INFERIOR FOR IT. NEGRO COON COMEDIANS LIE LIKE BLACK WOMEN STINK, DON’T WASH THEIR AZZ, ALL WEAR WEAVE, AND ARE UGLY. THEN DUMB NEGROES WALK AROUND AND WONDER WHY NO ONE IN THE WORLD RESPECTS US.

wow, such anger!! I think its really silly , so i wont be seeing that crap, not interested. I know plenty of black woman that have natural long hair, they take very good care of, and i know some that dont wear perms at all, they press their hair, and its long and beautiful, i dont get perms, dont wear weaves, and dont waste to much time on my hair, i go to salon and leave it at that, or pony tail, or let it hang, whatever

  8. lowridaz said

Joneblaze, good luck with that request….LMAOOO

Okay, Jennie and Viola has to be the same person. Anyway, I will be seeing the movie. I think it’s deeper than disrespecting black women.

For such a milestone moment, why does every BLACK person show up with weave or relaxed hair… it’s very clear what THEY consider “Good Hair”.

@Jennie/Viola… The movie is definitely NOT about who spends the most time on their hair black women or white women. The film broaches the issue of imagery in this country. Why do we only see black actors/entertainers with relaxers/straightened hair? Natural hair is not accepted in this country AT ALL. Except for India Irie, I really don’t know of any other sista in the entertainment world that keep their hair natural. Abroad, women tend to wear their hair natural more often and it is acceptable and they are still perceived as beatiful. I don’t think that’s the case here in the US and that’s what needs to be pondered…

lol@ Atlanta I was thinking the same thing they are one and the same person. But, the movie doesn’t look so eye catching…

Everyone and their weave looks good, especially Raven.

    Lol @ Sumarrain

    Good point CaramelKiss

  17. dude… its not about how long whites or blacks stay in the hair salon or take care of their hair. Its deeper than that… I’ve gone without a relaxer for over a year now after having had a relaxer put in my head every 6 weeks since the age of three. And you know how often i wore my real hair out in that fist year?? NEVER. Because I was embarassed because I didnt want people to see my “nappy” hair and find me unattractive. And im pretty sure im not the only black woman who deals with that brainwashing or the mentality that you’re only pretty if your hair is straight and long. I think thats what Chris is trying to show people with this movie…IMO

OK FUCK IT!! come on ladies, lets just all shave our heads off down to the scalp, all over the world! no more hair period! lets solve that problem, none to see, none to judge. some may have fucked up shaped heads, but no hair to judge, lololol

caramel who cares about what BUSH b8tches do? Americans don’t. So if you want to wear them tight azz braids on your head and walk around with a headache acting a fool, thinking you’re cute and natural just go ahead. anyone who wears there hair in them tight azz braids lose what ounce of sense they originally had. As for me, I’ll make my hair manageable enough to run a comb through it. IT IS CALLED COMFORT DUMMY. IT IS CALLED MODERN TECHOLOGY. THERE IS NOTHING COMFORTABLE ABOUT COMBING A HEAD FULL OF NAPPY AZZ HAIR. IT IS PAINFUL. STAY IN THE JUNGLE IF YOU AREN’T SMART ENOUGH TO APPRECIATE MODERN TECHNOLOGY IN HAIR CARE.

    • futureplasticsurgeon said

Jenine, your comment is sad and ignorant. Self-hate is a terrible thing. Why would you want or need to run a comb through natural kinky hair? You have just revealed your own lack of knowledge about the beautiful hair that the Creator gave you. Sistas, don’t be afraid to be you. How can anyone else accept our unique beauty if we can’t accept it ourselves?

And “stay in the jungle”? Again, displaying your ignorance. Have you ever even stepped foot on African soil? Please, travel or at the very least, read!

    Hot Damn Raven!

I object to that request lowridaz, we need something else to grasp while rearranging yall internal workings. besides not all women can pull off the shaved head look.

natural/straight/ weave/ short/ long i love it all. some women just need to learn to DO YOU however you wanna wear your hair to compliment your swag do it.

  23. itsurboi said

is raven holding her breath? Why does melyssa ford look like a lil mama stunt double?

  24. brynnrock said

    She looks fucking crazy!

  25. MissTX85 said

I’ll be seeing the movie just cause of the shit I just read up top!!

It would be wise to do that before one just ASSUMES what it’s about. Remember when you ASSUME you make an ASS out of yourself.

And Jennie/Viola did that very well already!

And I agree with PSB 100%. For me though, I’ve had a choice since I was old enough to understand the meaning of the word. And I chose to got with the straightening. Be it from a hot comb or a perm. Reason being because I like the outcome. Not because of what someone else thought. I’ve tried the natural thing more than once and it just ain’t for me. Had to hurry up and give my money back to Motions. LOL!

But that’s my point, it’s your decision on how you look period. Because in the end you’re the one that has to look at YOU everyday. If you don’t like what you see, then it’s on YOU to fix it.

Black women are BEAUTIFUL IN EVERY SHADE!!!! Much love to you and self.

  27. she keeps it real said

@Caramel kiss, I totally agree. It’s still looked upon in white society as “exotic” when we wear our hair in its natural state and in the black community we think of natural as nappy. Though, nappy is not a bad thing, because textured hair is beautiful hair whether kinky, curly or wavy. Chris Rock brings up a very valid issue when speaking of black women’s hair and with that realization coming from his own daughter. I have only one child and it’s a boy, I had an eye-opening experience with my niece when she felt her naturally thick curly hair did not flow freely like her white school mates. It’s an issue we as women of color do have to address at some point and I am glad Chris is bringing it out. Kudos to Madame C. J. Walker and her revolutionary approach to hair care, but she did set us up for the standardized white female persona of beauty!

  28. she keeps it real said

And yes, I do relax my hair but have been seriously thinking of rockin’ my natural hair texture(whatever that looks like). Yet, being that my mom started relaxing my hair at age 12, I’m a little worried and no where near experienced in handling my hair in it’s natural state after so many years of chemical straightening. That’s why this discussion is important to those who have little girls of color. They shouldn’t even be exposed to chemical burns, hours in a salon, hair weakness, and breakage to feel “accepted” and “beautiful” in our Westernized world!! Thank God I had a boy!

  29. thats..hawt said

I agree she keeps it real! My daughters hair is fine when pressed by myself without the chemicals and it looks just lovely, but it is sad to see the haters who are probally not even black talking like they are…i am biracial and i love my hair I can wear it curled or straight, long or short and I thank Gawd!!
