Fidel Castro: We could talk with Obama

Posted by Media Outrage on December 5, 2008

CUBA-CASTRO/CHAVEZ

In what has become a world family reunion with alienated leaders all over the world reaching out to President-Elect Barack Obama, Fidel Castro has also stated that Cuba would be willing to meet Obama anywhere he wants. See everyone is glad that Bush is packing up his sh*t and rolling the f_ck outta there. Castro says that ” the sovereign rights of the Cuban people are not negotiable.”

Via Reuters:

Cuba‘s former leader Fidel Castro said on Thursday his country could talk to U.S. President-elect Barack Obama, in Havana’s latest overture to the incoming Democratic administration in Washington.

His remarks followed comments from his brother, President Raul Castro, who told a U.S. magazine he could meet Obama in a “neutral place” to try to end the Communist-run island’s four-decade conflict with the United States.

“With Obama, talks could happen anywhere he wants,” Fidel Castro, America’s longtime Cold War enemy, wrote in the latest of a series of columns he has published in state-run media since falling ill in 2006.

“He should remember the carrot-and-stick approach will not work with our country,” Castro wrote of Obama. “The sovereign rights of the Cuban people are not negotiable.” Read the rest of this entry »

Cuba residents get their first computers

Posted by Media Outrage on May 3, 2008

This is a very interesting story. Cuba just received a mass influx of computers that were made available to the public yesterday. So yes Cuba residents have never had computers which was a complete shock to us. But the thing is that most of the residents will not be able to afford them. We also found out that the country not too long ago received their first cell phones that were made available to the public.

In this day and age of digital everything, it is completely mind boggling to imagine entire countries and nations that are devoid of technology. We understand these nations exist but when you live in a country that has the best of everything, your mind tends to forget that this lavish lifestyle is not being enjoyed everywhere. We say everyone who wakes up each morning especially if you live in America should have a heart full of gratitude for having access to the abundance of opportunities. We know that Oprah Winfrey said years ago that each night she takes some time to quietly reflect on her many blessings and say thank you. We all take so much for granted until you see the conditions that others actually live in. So take a little time to be grateful.

Fidel Castro resigns as cuba’s president

Posted by Media Outrage on February 19, 2008

Fidel Castro

Fidel Castro resigned today as president of Cuba after 50 years of being in power the longest for any head of government. He says he will not accept a new term when parliment meets on Sunday.

“My wishes have always been to discharge my duties to my last breath, it would be a betrayal to my conscience to accept a responsibility requiring more mobility and dedication than I am physically able to offer.”

Castro temporarily ceded his powers to his brother on July 31, 2006, when he announced that he had undergone intestinal surgery. Since then, the elder Castro has not been seen in public, appearing only sporadically in official photographs and videotapes and publishing dense essays about mostly international themes as his younger brother has consolidated his rule.
